The Acropolis Museum celebrates Greek National Holiday of October 28th


On the occasion of the Greek National Holiday of Monday 28 October 2013, the Acropolis Museum will be open and will offer its visitors 10 adult gallery talks about ‘The other gods of the Acropolis’ and 8 workshops for children aged 8-12 years about ‘Myths in images’.

Talks and workshops will be held by Museum Archaeologist-Hosts. On this day the Museum will remain open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with free entry for all visitors.

‘The other gods of the Acropolis’

Which other gods and heroes were worshipped on the Acropolis of goddess Athena? Cult sites of Poseidon, Artemis, Zeus, Asclepios, Dionysos, Aphrodite and other gods found their place around the temples of the goddess, but also on the slopes of the Sacred Rock. Today, visitors can admire the impressive material testimonies of their worship in the Museum galleries.

Participation is limited to 25 visitors per session on a first-in first-served basis (duration: 30 minutes). For registration details, please refer to the Information Desk at the Museum entrance.

Gallery Talks in Greek: 10:30 a.m., 12 noon, 1:30 p.m., 3 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m., 7 p.m.

‘Myths in images’
How did the ancient Greeks manage to fit their myths in images? How did they give life and feelings to their still protagonists? The Museum invites young visitors to set up their mobile workshops in front of the ancient heroes and monsters and to rebuild the well-known ancient myths.

Participation is limited to 10 children aged 8-12 years per session on a first-in first-served basis (duration: 30 minutes). For registration details, please refer to the Information Desk at the Museum entrance.
