Following the massive success of the Charity Bike Aegina Raid last year, Bike Greece (www.bikegreece.com) is organizing a Big Fat Charity Bike Ride Weekend on dirt tracks and across the wild terrain of Evia on Saturday, May 28, with proceeds going in aid of the Friends of the British School at Athens and their sponsored walk across Crete in May, which in turn is aimed at raising funds for ongoing archaeological excavation at Knossos in Crete.
Participants are invited to meet in time to catch the 8.15 a.m. ferry from Rafina to Marmari on Evia, and then set off on an exciting off-road bicycle ride along the coast to Karistos, Bouros, Kastri and Livadi. A dip in the sea is not out of the question, so don’t forget to bring your swimming gear.
The night will be spent at the family-run beachside Galaxy Hotel, and includes an evening meal and free wine, followed by a party with dancing.
Sunday’s route is approximately 20 kilometers, stretching from Myli, though picturesque mountain villages and back to Marmari for the return ferry ride.
The cost of participation is 57 euros and comprises 12 euros for the ferry (return ticket), 20 euros per person for a twin room at the Galaxy Hotel, 15 euros for evening meal (including free wine), as well as 10 euros for a charitable donation. Please book with the Galaxy Hotel directly. The contact number is 22240.22600.
There is a limited number of mountain bikes available for hire and the cost for the weekend is 25 euros. Payment must be made for these bikes one week before departure at Bike Greece’s Psyrri office (13 Karaiskaki) in central Athens.
There will be transportation arranged for luggage.
