Early summer serenity in southern Attica

Sixty-two kilometers down the coastal road from Athens to Cape Sounion, near the settlement of Harakas, there is a big bay with a sandy beach and clear waters that faces the islet of Patroklos and is excellent for families.

A few hundred meters on, just before Legraina, turn right at a signpost reading KAPE and park at the end of the dirt road. Descending the steps, you will see two small, beautiful beaches –- the one on the right is for nudists. Legraina, a big sandy beach, is a short distance on, in front of the abandoned Amfitriti Hotel. At the other end of the beach there is a good taverna.
When you reach Cape Sounion, leave the car at the first parking lot and follow the path on the left, which descends to a dark-pebbled beach facing the island of Makronisos. Though serene, due to its location this beach gets shady quite quickly, so make sure you get there early.
